Project Description
AIM:
The aim was to create a natural area that will encourage imaginative play and sit comfortably within it’s surrounding landscape.
LAYOUT & MATERIALS:
The layout has been inspired by an ancient celtic ring fort. The material pallet is minimal and natural. The four main materials that will be used are stone, wood, sand and grass. The ring structure will be formed using natural stone walling to create the inner leaf and grass mounding as the outer. Grass mounding is a very important feature as it is used right through the scheme to knit all the elements together. From the surround park it will flow over the walls and into the raised center.
AMPHITHEATER LEVELS:
This will be a multi functional feature. It forms a section of the fort boundary but will also double as a seating area and climbing steps. It is in keeping with the celtic theme and will blend naturally into the overall landscaping better then traditional bench seating.
PLAY:
The entire ring fort will encourage creative and imaginative play. The boundary and internal grass mounding will encourage running and hiding games. The natural tree and log features such as the climbing poles, balancing beams and steps logs will not only be a fun physical challenges but will build confidants as kids play.
